Special Experience

Being in Thailand is always such a special experience. I’m lucky to say that it’s not a vacation spot, but another home. We don’t do hotels or tours. It’s just Dad and Tik’s place.

We have our own apartments there, our grown-up kid’s rooms, which is so nice. As an introvert, I need to know that I have a private space to recharge from a busy day around people, even if I don’t spend much time there. Room #5 is my pad. It’s cozy and always stocked with drinks, but we mostly hang with Dad at his house a few doors away.

We eat like kings, thanks to a wonderful cook. She checks in with us throughout the day to find out what we’d like but we also enjoy sitting and talking with her. She teaches us Thai while she practices her English. The ladies who work there (Pui and Nit) are family.

What a lovely thing to take everyday tasks out of the equation to focus on what’s truly important. We don’t have to worry about cooking, shopping or laundry, allowing us to focus on our Dad. Tik even arranged for foot massages at the house so we didn’t have to leave. Moments of self-care are always so important, especially before flying out.

I just came home last night and I’m still very tired so it will be a chill day on the sofa watching movies and taking naps. Jon and Chance did well while I was gone. The house is clean and they finished the Halloween decorations. Thanks to the mommas in the hood who helped care for my kid and carpool him around for school + sports. I’m truly grateful for you.

It’s always hard to say goodbye, but I’ll be going back again next month. As my Dad says, when we travel, our world gets smaller. And the more we’re able to prioritize what really matters, the more the little things we normally worry about fade to the background. 🇹🇭
