My uncles treated me to the most lovely time down in Mexico yesterday. With an amazing loft in downtown San Diego just minutes from the border, they do brunch in Baja every weekend (life goals), so they were completely fabulous hosts, as usual. 🥂
We hit two of their favorite spots starting at the original La Fonda, of course, which is not pictured here but many of you know it well, and for everyone else, just imagine the most decadent buffet topped off with a cadillac margarita overlooking the ocean. 🏝 Then, we spent the rest of the afternoon at the rooftop lounge of Mi Casa Supper Club. We were so busy catching up that we skipped the third location and one of these pics may or may not be stolen from the internet! 😂 Then, the day was perfectly finished visiting (and cackling a little more!) in the gent's beautiful loft in the Gaslamp District while we waited for my wonderful husband to pick me up. 🚕
My uncles have always been there for me over the years. 👬 Growing up, they attended every Christmas morning (in their very best robes!), and would bring the most epic gifts of all. 🎁
They took me out on the town for my 21st birthday to my first burlesque show and ended with cocktails at Top of The Hyatt overlooking the harbor. It was the fanciest 21st a young lady could ever enjoy. 🍾
They were there when our kiddo was born, and still invited us to meet-up in Old Town on the weekends, even with a toddler and stroller in tow. 😆
We were together for a champagne toast on the very last day of Casa de Bandini (because how could they close without us?!) then we started meeting at the new location once they opened up again in our hood, which was totally meant-to-be. 🙌
And when my Dad got sick, they immediately called to take me to lunch because they knew I needed it as much as they did. 🙏
It feels good to connect with family at a time like this. It brings peace and laughter to an otherwise painful time for us all. Loss can be messy, but bracing for loss with so many feelings involved is much harder. So, while our hearts are still heavy, it's time for new beginnings filled only with love, kindness and fun. ❤️
Thanks, Uncles Billy and Bill, for yet another special adventure on the books. I'm so grateful for you both and everyone else who has taken the time to check in, especially now that things are quieting down and it can be tougher to move forward in this new normal. I feel the love and hope you all do too! 😘
And how awesome is this avocado-infused tuna ceviche?! It was as good as it looks. Yum! We need to get back there again soon, gentlemen (who incidentally are were not pictured here previously because we agreed in advance no photos but then I heard from people even privately that they really had to see a pic, so my uncles obliged)! Looking forward to our next trip, boys. 🙌
