Our only child is 18 years old today. What a strange but wonderful feeling this is. We’ve poured everything into this kid, and now we get to sit back, and watch his life unfold.
So, what is he up to now that he’s graduated high school? I keep getting this question and have been meaning to post but we’ve been so busy with the house and soaking up the last days of Summer…
Chance is taking a semester off. His time will be spent getting our forest land under control before it starts snowing. The boys have many other home + shop projects under way as well.
In Spring, Chance will start his certification in welding with OXARC. Then, in the Fall, he’ll begin the two-year machining and CNC technology program at Northern Idaho College.
Once enrolled, Chance can apply for a scholarship with the Mike Rowe WORKS foundation, which encourages the pursuit of great-paying blue collar jobs that are in demand and available now across the U.S.
Thankfully, the kid started kindergarten a year early. We’ve always said this would give him some breathing room to take his time and enjoy a little freedom first, and now it’s here.
As Ferris Bueller said, life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
Happy 18, Chance. You have grown into a fine young man. We just hope it’s ok that you’ll always be our cub. Love, Mom & Dad
